Chipotle Lime Sauce Recipe

Chipotle Lime Sauce

Chipotle Lime Sauce is a creamy, spicy condiment made with chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, lime juice, and a mayo or sour cream base. It has a smoky heat balanced by tangy citrus, making it perfect for Tex-Mex dishes or as a flavorful dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

    • ½ cup mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt for a lighter version)

    • 2 tablespoons sour cream

    • 12 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce (adjust to taste)

    • 1 tablespoon adobo sauce (from the can)

    • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

    • 1 teaspoon lime zest

    • 1 garlic clove, minced

    • ¼ teaspoon salt

    • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

    • Optional: 1 teaspoon honey (for a subtle touch of sweetness)

Instructions

Step 1: Blend the Ingredients Together

Place mayonnaise, sour cream, chipotle peppers, adobo sauce, lime juice, lime zest, garlic, salt, and pepper in a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth and creamy. Adjust the number of peppers based on your preferred spice level.

Step 2: Taste and Adjust Seasoning

After blending, taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as needed. Add a bit more lime juice for acidity, more adobo sauce for depth, or a touch of honey to balance heat.

Step 3: Chill Before Serving (Optional)

While it can be used right away, chilling the sauce for 15–30 minutes allows the flavors to meld for an even better taste. Store in a covered jar or container.

Step 4: Use as a Sauce, Dip, or Marinade

Drizzle over tacos, use as a burger spread, serve alongside grilled shrimp, or toss with roasted vegetables. This sauce adds flavor to just about anything.
